Instructor and Program Coordinator at Vertical, Leadership Expeditions Guide

Javiera is a graduate of the University of Chile as an Agronomist majoring in Plant Science. She completed a degree in Urban Agriculture (Landscaping) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.

She has worked with Vertical since 2000, as Monitor and Program Coordinator for Environmental Education, participating in training experiences with children, youth and adults, and Programs of Teamwork in the field of enterprises, social organizations and schools. Guiding and interpreting the Flora and Fauna of Chile, she has guided leadership expeditions with Wharton and NYU.

She has also been a Project Coordinator of Awareness Hikes at Vertical, sponsored by the Fetzer Institute, a joint initiative with the Vertical Foundation, serving as leader of 75 reflective hikes in different areas of Chile. They involved children, teenagers, adults, seniors, family groups, persons with disabilities (visual, auditory, physical, mental) and children in cancer therapy. She also teaches "Biodiversity of Chile" in the Vertical Professional Institute.

Her Vertical tenure has been instrumental in implementing tools such as teamwork, communication, fellowship and leadership in various work experiences, working to strengthen participants’ technical and social skills. In April 2014, she became a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR), accredited by NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School).
